- Okay, looks good on my system, the icon pops in and out of my workbenck as
- the Zip pops in and out of the drive... cool! ;)
-
- Here's my Mountlist...
- **********************************************
-
- /* Device Mountlist - *Originally* Created by Ami-Back Tools
- * Modified by Doug Peters
- *
- * Amiga ZIP-Disk Mountlist
- */
-
- Priority = 10
- Flags = 0x0
- Surfaces = 1
- BlocksPerTrack = 68
- Reserved = 2
- PreAlloc = 0
- Interleave = 0
- LowCyl = 2
- HighCyl = 2890
- Buffers = 30
- BufMemType = 0
- BlockSize = 512
- MaxTransfer = 0xFFFFFF
- Mask = 0x7FFFFFFE
- GlobVec = 0
- BootPri = 0
- DOSType = 0x444F5303
-
-
- /* The Device and Unit fields are controlled
- * by tooltypes in the icon.
- *
- * ZIP: Device = scsi.device
- * Unit = 5
- */
-
- ************************************************
-
- I don't think it's neccessary, but I also read the drive's configuration,
- saved it, and quit (don't partition it! - Don't even go in there!!!).
-
- The icon tooltypes looks like this:
- ************************************************
-
- DEVICE=scsi.device
- UNIT=5 (-Change to 6 if neccessary)
- ACTIVATE=1
- DONOTWAIT
-
- ************************************************
- Use the icon that comes with the PD ZipMount available on Aminet.
- Or any DosDriver Icon, I suppose.
-
- Throw the McZip and Zip Mountlists and thier icons into
- Devs:DOSDrivers and reboot and go rock and roll!
-
- If you take off the jumper for the SCSI ID 5, change the
- Mountlist's Icon to read "Unit=6".
-
- a word about the squirrel:
-
- SZIPTools
- qZIPTools
- uZIPTools
- iZIPTools
- rZIPTools
- rZIPTools
- eZIPTools
- lZIPTools
-
- ...is an absolute piece of shit. A shame, since oregon Research USUALLY
- puts out top-dog stuff. It doesn't even work with 3.1, crashed my system
- 3 times when installing WHILE writting to the disk.
-
- The only thing that it does that my mountlist (or anyone's mountlist)
- doesn't do is write/read (un)protect ZipDisks. Whoopie. it will crash
- Shapeshifter BIG TIME (corrupts the system folder) if you forget to shut
- it off before booting into ShapeShifter.
-
- To get it to work with ShapeShifter, you will probably need a scsi
- interface (controller card) with the full SCSI implementation, (like the
- GVP with GURU ROM or a 3000(T)) -OR a free Device Disk. Install the Iomega
- extension in (where else...) "system folder/extensions", shutdown (*I*
- have to reboot then, too, because of the Mac memory management problem, and
- me only having 14MBs to play with).
-
- Then when restarting ShapeShifter, go into SCSI from the main config window
- and check ID 5. Make sure you use the correct scsi.device (if not
- listed) save, start and use the ZipTools to write/read (un)protect, etc.
- If your system has trouble booting with the Iomega extension, remove it
- and use the Guest tool.... you will need to click on it when you want to
- access a McZipDisk. I don't know if the Guest toll will work with
- write/read (un)protect, though.
-
- You need CrossMac to read Mac disks. To read PCDisks, again, get CrossDOS
- 6!!! CrossDOS is much better in this version. Use the PCZip MountList in
- ZipMount.lha on Aminet.

-
- P.S.
- Squirrel ZipTools also seems to want to format the disks to 96 MBs. Mine
- and all other versions I have seen formats it to 95MBs, and Shapeshifter
- formats to 94.x MBs, so that may be another part of the problem. But
- that is one in a long list of probs, I can't believe that anyone would
- put that out commercially. It won't even format a ZipDisk under 3.1!!!
-
- YUCK!!!
